How I made the vector for my header

I made a sketch in Paint. After making the initial coloured ribbon I tried to colour in the background. It doesn’t look good so I decided to move to Illustrator.

I used the pen tool to make the vector.

I opened this image in Photoshop. This is one of the default images WordPress provides for headers.

I looked at its size:

I made a new document in Illustrator using these dimensions. I copied and pasted the vector on to the new document. The vector was too big so I used Scale to change it. Remember to check Scale strokes and effects or your design will distort.

Here is the finished piece.

I then uploaded it on to my blog.

    • Oh thanks! :D Yeah that’s the thing, you have to have an idea. I was really bored the other day so I made that sketch. Try sketching the first shape that comes in to your head, then make it in to a vector afterwards. Its not like you can sketch with the pen tool! Use your favourite colours or a set of colours you think look good together.
